I lost my banking job when the bank I was working for decided to slash its workforce. I had thought about teaching preschool because I love being around young children. Their minds are so open to new things and they have such an innocence about them that I really enjoy. I decided to look further into this and see what sort of requirements it took to do that. The more I read about it, the more I knew that is what I wanted to do. I already had the coursework that was needed but it wouldn’t hurt to get refreshed a bit. That was three years ago and I absolutely made the right choice. I am happier than I have been in a very long time and it is all thanks to the kids.

EMTs are responsible for assessing the condition of patients at the scene of car accidents, stroke or heart attack victims, unexpected child births, fires, and hundreds of other situations. EMTs must be able to quickly assess a victim’s condition, brief medical history and any medications or regular allergies they may have, and how to best treat the patient in order to maintain their well being and transport them to a medical facility.
EMTs are employed by several types of organizations and emergency services agencies. They can also work for the department, a hospital, or private ambulance companies. The hours and salary will vary and are typically given to those with the most training and credentials, such as Advanced EMTs or Paramedics. An increasing number of people are demanding care prior to arriving at the hospital and emergency services personnel are primarily the ones who have that responsibility.
In order to become an EMT, one must be at least 18 years of age (there are age limits in some states), pass a physical exam, and have good eyesight or wear corrective lenses, and be able to carry heavy loads – primarily medical equipment, stretchers, backboards, etc.
There are many EMT training programs available at community colleges, other vocational schools, and even online certification programs. Online self study programs do require a field test on location however. It is important to make sure the program meets the requirements of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). We Need to Do Something to Help Our Economy
Tuesday, June 21st, 2011Living in California, I know there are a lot of programs for many different people. Some I agree with and some I don’t agree with. I have always thought that being able to get unemployment insurance was a good idea. Well for at least for awhile, I think that when someone looses their job, they have paid into the unemployment part of the state insurances, so they should be able to get help when they need it. I don’t however think that it should be something that should go on forever. California has a lot of financial problems, and they are having problems paying for their bills. So having another california unemployment extension may not be the best thing for the state. But I don’t make the rules, and there are so many other programs that the state of California could cut in order to pay for this Unemployment Extension programs. But like all of things the government starts they never want to see an end where there needs to be one. Yes you pay into the insurance but it is not a forever thing. The extensions that the government allows are not fully funded and cost not only the state but the whole country. Yes, I have compassion for someone who has lost their job, and I think there are better ways to help them get through this hard time in their lives other than to keep giving them money. I know in what I am speaking of, I had to use unemployment insurance at one time in my life, but I knew that at some point it was not a good idea to continue taking it and I stopped taking it. I felt guilty and it was just not a good program for me. Luckily I was able to find a job and I am now doing okay.
