Watching Rte Far From Home
When RTE player was released all the Expat Irish living across the world were very pleased. When you are at home in Dublin, the Late Show doesn’t seem that important but it’s funny how you miss it when you’re abroad. Unfortunately it was quite that straight forward as RTE player used a technology called Geotargeting. This is the process where the web content you can view is tailored to match your location. Most of the time this can be quite good, allowing search engines to tailor local results, but more often than not it is used to block access.
It’s quite simple, the web site merely looks at your IP address when you connect. If the IP address range is not registered as an Irish one then the media player won’t let you view. Fortunately it’s fairly simple to change your IP address and to watch RTE player anywhere in the world you merely need to connect through an Irish proxy server.
